Bagel Sandwich Heaven from The Breadman

One of my favourite weekday lunch options is The Breadman stall in Berwick Street Markets.  It’s a popular choice for me while picking up the bi-weekly fruit for the office from the neighbouring fruit stall.

On this occasion I decided to purchase 2 bagels and could sum up my experience of them with 2 simple words: “om” and “nom”!

Chicken Deluxe and Venison Chutney

Chicken Deluxe (£2.20) is a longtime favourite of mine – so much so that I can remember the days when it was simply called “Chicken Mayo”. It was divine as always with creamy mayo and salad in a crisp and chewy poppyseed bagel.

Venison Sausage with chutney (£2.50) was a new addition to my repertoire of sampled sandwiches and it was also good. Meaty with hints of citrus, balanced with a lovely chunky sweet chutney in a sesame seed bagel.

They have a wide range of offerings that seem to be getting better and better all the time – I also have a soft spot for their fish finger bagel sandwiches, their bacon and egg mayo bagel sandwiches (previously blogged), their pork and apple sauce baguettes and their sausage rolls. The Breadman is a fab place to visit for a good and cheap lunch!

EDIT 17/02/2011: Here’s a photo of the fish finger yumminess I had for lunch the other day. Awesome with some deliciously tart and creamy tartare sauce and pickles and a cup of tomato and basil soup on the side.

good tip! I have never eaten anything on Berwick Street Market but have walked through it hundreds of times. Next time I will stop for a chicken deluxe, looks absolutely mouthwatering.

Hehe… I visited last Thursday and purchased £15 of sandwiches (and a sausage roll) for my flight to Iceland. Apparently they’ve stopped doing Halloumi Sandwiches though so see if you can drop them a hint into making them again as they were awesome! :)
