Burger & Lobster, for your crustacean gratification

10 May 2012

When one has a hankering for lobster in London where does one go? Ah that age old question. For the longest time the only establishments that served these delicious crustaceans as far as I was aware would be the odd Chinese restaurant in the form of lobster noodles, Belgo’s during their lobster festival or somewhere so ostentatious and out of my budget it wasn’t worth considering.

Now when one thinks of lobster in London, there’s just one place comes to mind… Burger & Lobster.

Brought to you from the folks behind Goodman, there is no menu, only one simple question “burger or lobster?” With both dishes priced at £20, it’s not difficult to guess who wins. In fact a quick glance at the plethora of bright red shells adorning the tables around the restaurant is all it takes to clearly see who the star of the show is. (more…)

Taste of London 2011 Round Up

20 Jun 2011

Every Summer the Taste of London food festival takes place over 4 days in Regents Park. It is by far one of my most favourite festivals and in the past five years, rain or shine, I’ve not missed a single one! This year we managed to survive the recent damp weather relatively unscathed except for a few muddy puddles.

We attended on Sunday, the final day of the festival and also the day with the longest session lasting from 12 – 5pm, allowing us more time for eating, drinking, browsing and general enjoyment! We’d purchased VIP tickets so after a quick glass of complimentary champers in the BA VIP Tent, we set off ready to eat! A Grandiose Breakfast at The Wolseley

27 Mar 2011

“Another birthday, another birthday meal out” seems to have defined my past couple of months. But far be it for me to complain. In fact I’m extremely fortunate to have friends with such excellent taste in restaurants.

I’d previously dragged myself out of bed once before to experience the full European grandeur of having breakfast at Piccadilly-based restaurant The Wolseley before going to work! It ended up being a rather luxurious, surprisingly convenient and not overly costly experience. And now the birthday of a friend seemed like an excellent reason to do it again!

My Year of Food 2010: Part 2

6 Jan 2011

Continuing on from my previous post I bring you a few more culinary highlights from 2010:

Bob Bob Ricard (6th August 2010)

After looking for an impromptu place for dinner after work on a Friday night we went for a wander around Soho and stumbled across Bob Bob Ricard.  The exterior being relatively nondescript, it was not a restaurant I’d previously taken much notice of and often walked past it during my work lunch breaks.  However after reading about their rather indulgent sounding caviar and vodka lunch special on Londonist a week or so earlier, my interest was piqued.

So in we went and rather curiously I found myself suddenly transported back to the glamour and decadence of the pre-stock market crash 30s.  The waiting staff wore carnation pink uniforms and the décor was lavish with desk lamps and “Press for Champagne” buttons adorning every booth.  The luxurious quirkiness of the place was a very pleasant surprise.
