14 Jul 2011

Jumping back a little in time now, I finally bring to you my first experience at that elusive, wondrous, carnivore’s heaven in a van that is The Meatwagon!

On this occasion they were doing a one off pop up at the Dalston Roof Park. It was a Friday night in May; the place was absolutely buzzing, and that was just the hungry queue forming to get in. (more…)

Yuppying it up with the Young Turks and the Clove Club

10 Jul 2011

“Surprise! I’ve arranged an interview for you for a fancy Canary Wharf job” I joked as we walked into an old office block. I could see the initial confidence that the birthday surprise I was providing would be a restaurant meal dissolve into bewilderment and mild panic.

The reaction could be read as clearly as if it had been framed within a speech bubble above the confused face. “Huh? What is this place? Oh god, could it really be for a job interview? Or worse, a job interview with a cooking component!”

By the time I arrived at around 6.30pm, they had a nice little queue forming for their special BBQ box. This box of tasty treats contained one of their classic Tamworth belly ribs, a “Not Dog” (consisting of a mix of pork, beef and secret spices) and as much home made kim chi as you cared to pile on top. Pitt Cue Co’s BBQ beans or coleslaw and pickles were also included in the box. All for only £7, this was one weighty and excellently valued meal! (more…)

The Modern Pantry at Meza – fusion flair pops up in Soho

29 Mar 2011

Baywatch had Baywatch Nights, Hollyoaks had Hollyoaks Later, and now for a limited time only, The Modern Pantry has The Modern Pantry at Meza. All of these reincarnations come across as racier, edgier versions of the original. However there seems to be one key difference between Anna Hansen’s creation and these cheap TV spinoffs: The Modern Pantry at Meza isn’t crap!
